AUSTIN— Speaker Joe Straus (R-San Antonio) today announced Texas House appointments to the Joint Interim Committee to Study the Development of a Cruise Industry. The committee will study the possibility and potential economic impact of the development of a cruise industry on the Texas coast between Calhoun and Cameron counties. The committee was created through Senate Concurrent Resolution 5, Regular Session, 82nd Legislature. “Texas is the best state in the country for business,” said Speaker Straus. “This committee will help make the state more competitive in the tourism industry by finding ways to enhance the cruise industry for economic development in communities along the Texas coast.” Speaker Straus has appointed Chairman Todd Hunter (R-Corpus Christi) as co-chair of the committee. The committee members include Rep. Gary Elkins (R-Houston), Chairman Ryan Guillen (D-Rio Grande City), Rep. Eddie Lucio III (D-Brownsville), and Rep. Connie Scott (R-Robstown).
