Since we elected Joe Straus in 2005, he has championed fiscal responsibility, making state government live within its means. As Speaker of the Texas House, he led the House in passing a budget that cut total spending by more than $14 billion. And he's one of the only legislators ever to wipe a tax off the books.

Republican Results

Joe was unanimously elected Speaker in 2009, and re-elected overwhelmingly in 2011. Under his leadership, Republicans reversed a trend of decline and turned a narrow two-seat Republican majority into a 52-seat super-majority, ensuring conservative government.

Lifelong Republican and San Antonio Native Son

Joe is a San Antonio native who proudly served in the administrations of Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush. Joe and Julie raised their daughters here, and have worked here for more than 25 years. He's one of us.
